Webinar on: Safeguarding the Cultural Heritage of Bangladesh: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach
Department of Architecture, Northern University of Business and Technology, Khulna hosted a very educative and resourceful webinar on “Safeguarding the Cultural Heritage of Bangladesh: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach”. We had some marvelous speakers like Afroza Khan Mita (Regional Director, Department of Archaeology Khulna and Barisal Division), A K M Syfur Rahman (Assistant Director, Department of Archaeology Khulna and Barisal Division), Swapan Kumar Guha (Founder and Executive Director of Rupantar and Convener Khulna Cultural Development Committee) and Sarder Shakil Ahmed (Head and Lecturer, Department of Architecture ,NUBTK). In this discussion Afroza Khan Mita described various kinds of tasks of the Department of Archaeology and showed us some valuable resources of conservations of Mahasthangarh, Ananda Vihara, Gokul Medh, Vasu Vihara and many more. She enlightened the viewers about the need of conservations and rules-regulations of conservations. On the contrary Swapan Kumar Guha spoke about culture and cultural heritage like lalon sangeet,Khaja Khan Jahan ali, Pala gan, Jari gan etc and the need of conserving cultural heritage. He also discussed his personal research with some european and American researchers. Mr. Guha also urged Afroza Khan Mita to take necessary steps to conserve K.D Ghosh road and entitle it as a Heritage trail. He also explained how we can conserve “Lalon er gaan” or “Khaja Khan Jahan Ali culture” as a spiritual heritage.The viewers were mesmerized by the speech of Swapan Kumar Guha and Afroza Khan Mita. Later in the Q & A section Afroza Khan Mita answered about the rules and scopes of conservation, Digitalization of conservation and the participation of local mass in conservation. At the end Sarder Shakil Ahmed promises that students of the department of architecture will help the Department of archeology and Rupantar in any kind of conservation work they need.
